What to Know When Buying Camaro Wheels

As a Camaro owner you probably don’t dance, but your Camaro wheels can and should. Here's what you need to know about finding the right fit for new Camaro wheels.  Here are what you need to know to find the right fitting wheel for your Camaro:

  • Wheel Diameter
  • Wheel Width
  • Wheel Offset
  • Wheel Backspacing

What is Wheel Diameter?

Knowing the wheel diameter is important because it helps to determine what tire size you will need. Measuring the diameter of the wheel is measured from the inner lip of the barrel. Taking this measurement will give us our wheel diameter.

How to Measure Wheel Diameter

This measurement is taken on the outside or inside of the wheel by using the inner portion of the wheels lip for our edge. Taking the measurement from this location will give us the wheel diameter we are looking for.

What is Wheel Width?

Wheel width helps determine tire size, and the wider the tire - the more power for your Camaro. A wider tire gives more power and allows you to get to the ground without spinning the tire.

How to Measure Wheel Width

To measure the width of your wheels you will want to take the measurement from the inner lip. If you measure from the outer lips your number will unfortunately be incorrect.

What is Wheel Offset?

Wheel Offset is important because a negative offset can cause your wheels to rub. Wheel Offset is the measurement between the centerline of the wheel and the mounting surface of the wheel. Offset is measured in millimeters in either a zero, positive or negative measurement. Zero offset is when the hub surface is in the centerline of the wheel. Positive offset is when the hub mounting surface is towards the front side of the wheel. Negative offset is when the hub mounting surface is towards the back side of the wheel.

How to Measure Offset

To measure wheel offset we will want to find the centerline of the wheel and take our measurements from there to determine if we have a zero, positive, or negative measurement. Doing this will allow us to make sure that we are going to clear any components such as strut towers, sway bars, or control arms.

Meaning of Backspacing:

Backspacing is the distance from the hub mounting surface to the inside of the lip of the wheel. More backspacing puts the tire in closer to the center of the car. Measuring Backspacing: To get this measurement we are going to measure from the back side of the hub to the outer portion of the wheels barrel. Don’t forget our Camaro experts are standing by to answer questions about your wheels.
