TX2K23: Breaking Records & A Chat with Vengeance Racing - An Inside Look

TX2K is known for smashing world records during its street-racing event, and this year was no different. T1 Racing broke a roll race quarter-mile record for the fastest time with a 2013 Nissan GT-R. The record was broken at a whopping 237.55 mph! The setup was a 4.3L billet block with twin 80mm Garrett turbos. The T1 team should be proud of this build and world record. There was even a surprise appearance by Hiroshi Tamura, Nissan chief product specialist.

Each year the street-racing event sees faster cars with wilder builds, setting and breaking records across the board - making it difficult to stand out when going up against the creative Cleetus McFarland team. Our Phastek heart belongs to Chevy, but that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate the speed and builds.

Phastek caught up with Ron Mowen from Vengeance Racing, a previous world-record breaker at TX2K. In 2021, Vengeance Racing set a record of 7.37 at 192 with a C7 Corvette.

Vengeance Racing

Vengeance Racing traveled from Georgia to Texas with an impressive fleet of heavyweight CTS-V Cadillacs, C6 Corvette and Camaro builds. They made the March cover of RPM Magazine with their C6 Corvette - dubbed Fatman 3.0. Mowen runs Fatman 3.0 on the ⅛, ¼ and ½ mile tracks and boasts that this C6 build has 3,000 HP.

Michael Kelly Gen II CTS-V

Michael Kelly races Vengeance’s turbocharged Cadillac CTS-V for the Heavyweight Class at TX2K. The heavyweight class requires a vehicle weight of at least 4,000 lbs. Kelly’s Gen II CTS-V is no stranger to TX2K or setting records. This build touts a 2020 record for the World’s Quickest & Fastest IRS Gen II CTS-V running 7.93 at 176 mph. Phastek caught up with Mowen to give us a rundown on this Vengeance Racing build.

StealthZL1

We think one of the most interesting cars in the Vengeance Racing fleet is a 5Gen Camaro ZL1 that was won during a Speed Society Giveaway by Ryan Weger/Stealthzl1. Mowen and his team worked with Speed Society to give the car more upgrades. This is a monster of a street car that the Vengeace team has built, they then tore it down and rebuilt it again creating a streetcar on steroids.
