Choosing the Right Brake Calipers for Your Camaro
Brake caliper fitment depends on the Camaro's generation, trim, factory brake package, rotor size and whether the caliper is being installed on the front or rear. Replacement calipers should match the original brake configuration unless the vehicle is being converted with a complete compatible brake system.
Stock Replacement
Stock-replacement calipers are designed to replace the original caliper while retaining the compatible factory-style rotor, pad and mounting configuration.
Match the replacement to the correct side, axle and factory brake package.Front vs. Rear
Front and rear Camaro calipers are designed for different positions and braking loads. They are not interchangeable, and some replacement calipers are also driver- or passenger-side specific.
Verify front or rear and left or right when required.Rotor & Pad Compatibility
The caliper must work with the correct rotor diameter, rotor thickness and brake pad shape. A caliper from another Camaro brake package should not be assumed to work with your existing rotors and pads.
Treat the caliper, rotor and pad as parts of one braking system.Finish & Appearance
Replacement calipers may be available in factory-style or powder-coated finishes. A colored caliper can change the appearance behind the wheel without necessarily changing the basic brake configuration.
Finish alone does not indicate increased braking capability.Camaro Brake Caliper Fitment
Camaro brake systems vary by trim and factory brake package. SS, 1LE and ZL1 models may use different calipers and rotor configurations, even within the same generation.
2010–2015 Camaro
Camaro SS and performance-package models commonly use different brake hardware than base applications. Current Phastek listings include front and rear replacement calipers for select SS, SS/1LE and ZL1 applications.
Match the Factory Brake Package
Confirm model year, trim, front or rear location, driver or passenger side when applicable, rotor configuration and factory brake package before selecting a replacement caliper.
Camaro Brake Caliper FAQ
How do I know which brake caliper fits my Camaro?
Start with the Camaro's model year, trim and factory brake package. Then verify whether you need a front or rear caliper and, when applicable, a driver- or passenger-side caliper. The replacement must also be compatible with the vehicle's rotor and brake pad configuration.
Are Camaro front and rear brake calipers interchangeable?
No. Front and rear calipers are designed for different mounting locations, rotor sizes and braking requirements. Use a caliper specifically listed for the correct axle position.
Are driver- and passenger-side Camaro calipers different?
Some calipers are side-specific. Bleeder location, mounting orientation and hose routing can differ between left and right sides. Check the individual product description before ordering.
Can I replace only one brake caliper?
A single failed caliper can be replaced when appropriate, but the condition and operation of the caliper on the opposite side should also be inspected. Uneven caliper operation can contribute to pulling, uneven pad wear and inconsistent braking.
Do replacement brake calipers come with brake pads?
Kit contents vary by manufacturer and product. A replacement caliper may be sold by itself or may include additional hardware. Check the individual product listing to confirm whether pads, brackets or other components are included.
Can I install ZL1 or 1LE brake calipers on an SS Camaro?
Not necessarily as a direct replacement. A brake conversion can require compatible rotors, pads, brackets, brake lines, mounting hardware and adequate wheel clearance. Use a complete combination that is specifically confirmed for the vehicle.
Do more brake caliper pistons always mean better brakes?
No. Piston count is only one part of a brake system. Piston area, caliper stiffness, pad size, rotor dimensions, master-cylinder operation, tires and brake balance all contribute to braking performance.
Do new brake calipers need to be bled after installation?
Yes. Opening the hydraulic brake system during caliper replacement introduces air that must be removed. The brakes should be properly bled using the correct brake fluid and procedure before the vehicle is driven.
Does a red or powder-coated brake caliper improve braking performance?
The finish itself does not increase braking performance. Powder coating primarily changes appearance and can provide surface protection. Braking capability depends on the design and specifications of the caliper and the rest of the brake system.
